Last week we posted 10 tips for growing indoor. Today we present to you our top 10 tips for growing marijuana outdoor.
1. K.I.S.S.
K.I.S.S. stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid. Don’t try and over think your garden. Sun, soil, water. With that, you can grow some plants.
2. Southern Exposure
When looking for a good location to grow, keep an eye out for an area with southern exposure. This means an area with no hills, trees or buildings blocking your precious sun. Maximize your sunlight exposure.
3. Good Soil
Good soil doesn’t have to mean bags of expensive soils. Granted this can give you great results, but it isn’t always cost effective or necessary. Find a landscape supply company that sells bulk soil, you can start with that and save a lot of money. $30–$70 bucks can get you an entire truckload of quality soil. Make sure the soil has good drainage and add perlite if needed. While soil with some nutrients is great, don’t forget you can always feed your plants when you water. Adding amendments to the soil is an easy and cheap way to boost your soils potential.
4. Timing With Planting
Growing outdoors successfully hinges on how happy your plants are. Giving them a good start from day one makes a big difference. If planting clones outside, wait until mid May. The long nights early in the spring will often induce flowering much too early. If you start your plants inside, make sure you don’t move them outside until the days are longer and the nights shorter. Seeds can be started the end of March or April as long as the freezing nights are behind you.
5. Security
When picking a location and setting up your garden, remember to plan for security. This means keeping people from finding it, and keeping animals out. Fence in the plants. If you are gardening in your backyard, build a fence tall enough so that the plants don’t peak over. Visible plants will bring unwanted attention. Game cameras are a good addition to guerilla grows. They let you know if anyone has found your garden and will tell you what critters are visiting.
6. Start With 1 Line Of Nutrients
Like indoor growing, start with 1 brand of nutrients. That brand of nutrients has everything your plants need to be happy. Adding to much fertilizer can overdo it and cause problems.
7. Larger Holes = Larger Plants
When you dig your holes, or choose your beds or bags, size matters. A deeper and wider area for the roots will produce a bigger health plant. Dig those holes big. You will never have a problem with too big of a hole, but it’s easy to run out of room because your hole or bag is too small.
8. Training
Training your plants can increase yield. Topping plants, cages, trellises, super cropping, or low stress training (LST) encourages more lateral growth and more tops. The more tops you grow, the more tops you harvest.
9. Lots of Water
Lots of water will make plants grow faster. Faster growing plants means bigger plants. Just make sure that they have good drainage. A drip system will help alleviate the stress of needing to hand water your plants all the time. Water timers can even let you got on a short vacation if needed.
10. Preparing for Harvest
When you grow big happy plants, you always need to think ahead. When you get ready to harvest your plants, have a place to hang and dry all your precious bud. Having a nice clean room is ideal. Sometimes that isn’t possible. So be creative. Sometimes you have to hang a tarp to keep rain and leaves off your drying buds. Make sure you have a plan for airflow. Even in your tarp tent you might need some fans. That might mean a small quiet generator. Don’t forget the scissors. Fiskers are awesome.
I hope some of these tips help you out. Please feel free to ask questions if you need help.

What brand of plant food please?
Honestly it matters a lot less than you might expect. The important part is the N-P-K values of the food you choose.

I am new to this, I would like to know why some of my plants are dying, could it be to much water or not enough. I am using all purpus fertilizer 20-20-20 at 16ml to 4 l of water with promix and sheep manure.
There are a million reasons why plants die. could be to much water or not enough, could be to much fertilizer or not enough light. Try posting some pictures along with you questions in the forum. We will be able to give you a more informed answer.

I have a clone plant. It is about 10 inches tall and was just put in a bit larger pot. I’d like to put in my new large hole in the ground that I filled with 4 in 1 soil…the best soil, peat moss, manure and perlite mix stuff and quite deep. 130 L of top grade soil in a 4 foot square hole…about a yard deep. My buddy figures that I should wait awhile before transplanting it into the ground…because, he thinks, it hasn’t established a good enough root system yet, to transplant again. It’s growing and even producing pistils already and smells skunky already. If I gently transplant this today, with Wilsons liquid root stimulator 5-15-5 I can’t see that killing it or stunting it badly. IDEAS ANYONE? Thanx much.
The only problem with transplanting and then trying to transplant again soon after, is that the roots may not hold the soil together very well and it could fall away from the roots. This is not necessarily a problem but large chunks of dirt falling away often take fragile roots along with them.
I have 2 potted…large 10 gal pots…I have never done this b4 and haven’t really investigated it on net…they are gowing good, but when do the buds begin to form? Mine are about 3 months old and about 4 ft. tall..I have not given anything just water…will begin to use Miracle Grow…have them in the back yard, with about 12 hours of full sun…they look great but I don’t know what to do next…HELP 🙂

Have you ever used any Advanced Nutrients products on your awesome greens.??
I have tried many of them over the years. They work great but you’ll spend a lot of money on products that are derived from the same cheap chemicals found in commercial agriculture products.
I would also like to know if you know of any product that could assist me in getting my ph level down just a hair from the alkiline side.. I hear Sulfur is what I should be using..
Are we talking about a in a nutrient reservoir or in your soil. There are lots of options sulfur is probably not one I would suggest. Repost this is our forum so all can contribute.
What causes brown/rustic looking spots on leaves on virgin soil?
very informational for my amazing outdoor garden in beautiful Denver!
This is my 1st time growing outdoor. I put my plants outside mid june (I had them veg indoor) & they started to flower after a few weeks. Is this normal flowering 4 outdoor?
I suppose it depends on where you live and what kind of plants they are. Seems a little early for the region I’m familiar with.
Is there such as thing as letting them grow too long if they’re already in full flowering
I’ve been growing since march outside and my plants haven’t even started to produce flowers or buds. What do I do.
I have one question what should I do to get my flowers tighter and longer any ideas
Take it to the forum
I live in southeastern MA and my outdoor plant is far from done flowering. Frost is looming and I can’t bring them inside. I found a large box to cover them would that protect them? Also if I covered them so they got less light say 10 hours instead of 13 would that quicken the pace of flowering even a little.
Both might work.
im going to try to grow my own plant for the 1st time outside. if I plant my seeds tomorrow how long would it be b4 my seed starts sprouting. and should I put more then 1 seed per pot?????

Also, planting outside in October most likely won’t get you much of a harvest at least not if you live in the northern hemisphere. Cannabis plants want to grow through the summer and reach maturity in the fall. Your plant is going to want warmer weather, more sun and longer days.
ALL THIS INFO WAS THE S#IT THANKS GUYS
how do yu train your plants. im a lil confused on how to do that. please help thanks
This is a better question for the forum. We would be happy to help, as would other growers who often visit the forum

I haven’t read all the comments but enough to want to respond,
For what it’s worth ~
* First of all Pot is an herb and like all herbs, they usually grow where they are needed, on depleted soil
* Fertilizer; Try to remember you are not supposed to feed the plant, instead feed the microorganisms in the soil and they feed the plants just what they need, according to soil type. If you want to use animal manures you have to compost it first, meaning you leave it in a pile at least 3ft high, keep it moist, toss in a hand full of worms and wait about a year. You can use good fish hydrolate (not fish emultion) kelp meal (seaweed) add it to a nice tea that you already have made from soaking alfalfa and some peat moss for a day or two, strain it then add a hand full of Azomite, a little humic acid if you have it, dilute 50/50 with fresh water and water your plants and repete every 3 to 6 weeks. don’t fertilize with anything the last couple weeks before harvest. Just forget all the fancy stuff, you cam make your own for pennies, keep it simple and always try to mimic nature as best you can
* So called topsoil from landscape supply is just dirt excavated from who knows where with some wood waste thrown in and they call it topsoil, it ain’t even close. I have even seen little shards of plywood in it. All the so called commercial “amendments are crap, except organic Peat Moss. The wood waste they call amendments actually rob your soil of nitrogen trying to break it down. it’s real purpose is to lay on top of the soil to block weeds
* No chemicals, no sprays, even organic, especially during budding, If you get inch worms pick them off by hand and knock their shit out from inside the bud or you will get mold.
In the end, all you need is a little something to kick open the doors of perception, at that point, the one thing you don’t want is to reflect on what chemical
you’ve just put in your body.. Peace Out
how long will it to grow out door?
Was short on seeds an my only option was hermaphrotite seed, apparently 1 of 4 is guaranteed female, but the other 3, goes male, one dies or goes maph and the 3rd goes maph, what is the most guaranteed way of picking the females the earliest so im not wasting time / money on a hopeless case, an can get more started before its too late,
The best way is to determine the female plant and then take cuttings. I also have a full article up on the page on sexing cannabis plants. I think you will find it helpful.
I am a newcomer to the growing industry and I am very eager to learn the ways of the trade. Like any newcomer I am full of curiosity and questions.. where do I start out? I have enough space for a a few large plants indoor but I’m worried about my neighbors complaining of smell. Therefor, outdoor growing would be easiest for me to start out. Would I have to start off indoor & as my plant progressed move it outdoor? Just looking for a little guidance here, thanks!
I’m trying to grow and I’m wanting to know could I just start growing outside right off the bat or grow inside then bring it outside

So my weed plant grow all by its self because I used to smoke and just throw seeds every where so it’s a bit tall and branched out and it hadn’t produced anything… so my question is, what need I do to make my plant produce because it’s 5 months now
Hello, thank you for the precious tips.
I just have one simple question; I’ve just started
growing weed plants. I’ve already got two of them and the’re 15 cm tall and they are with flowers already. Some friends told me I need to wait until they reach about 50 cm tall. Can I harvest them when I first see the so-called white bubbles even if they are not that tall?
Me and a buddy are beginning to get into the business. We are starting with 10 seeds we are wanting to plant all 10 and hoping for AT LEAST 7 to live. We want to harvest 6 of them and let 1 grow all the way through and hopefully get the seeds from it so we don’t have to buy more seeds. Will that work?

Approximately, how long would it take my plants to grow?….It has already been a month..and my plant is about 6 inches from the ground…it is all natural…straight sun and water. Also how long would it take for my plants to start flowering?
What does it mean when your plant starts growing lil seed does that mean the plant is no GOOD PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME
It means it’s a male plant what u want is a female
Pull it up now…if your plant starts growing seeds not buds it means its a male…if u have any other plants around they will get fertilized and you will have a lot of seeds in your weed(buds)
new to outdoor growing, i started my plants and will be putting them outside soon, for now they are in promix soil and once they have been transplanted i just want basic simple fertilizer information i.e. 20-20-20 for grow and 10-30-20 for budding etc, whats the best ratio or rather the safest concentration to use. if it makes a difference as well once my plants are outdoors i will not be visiting them often so i need something is slow release any help is appreciated email me your thoughts williezoom@hotmail.com
Hey everyone! So I have a question for anyone willing to answer and help me. Ok the question is how to dig a bud plant out of the ground and then transplant it in to a pot.. I’ve been growing this nice looking bud plant. Problem is that its in my front yard and I want to move it into a pot. Can anyone help. I want her to live..HELP

For outdoor planting in garden, what is a largehole? Dimensions? How deep?
So I have a plant that is trying to go into the bud cycle early. Is it still worth putting in the ground?
Yes it most likely is an Auto flower. Grows nice and quick outside
I have a plant that is budding but not sure wen to pull it its about 4 months oli plz can some one plz give me some tips thank you
How long has it been budding? Usually takes at least 8 weeks from when it’s started flowering to finish
My plant is dying is it cause I don’t give it nutrients what should I do it’s about a month an two weeks is it to late to buy the nutrients
Hypotheticaly if i was growing ourside with 5 gallon buckets do i need to do anything besides have good drainage to prevent the plants from getting too much water like something over the buckets??
Plants outdoors typically like a little more room than a 5 gallon bucket. Remember your roots grow as much as your plant does. But drill some holes in the bottom of your bucket and you should be fine
What about using worm castings?
Maybe spray the leaves with worm water or worm tea?
at 1.5 months old you have to start feeding your plants, and the best organic fertilizer is worm castings. Spray the leaves with worm water or worm tea.
